NO RAIN THROUGH THE WEEKEND: We have scattered clouds over Alabama today, but the low levels are dry, and there is no rain on radar. Temperatures are in the 77-81 degree range, and we will drop down into the 50s late tonight.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: Fine fall weather continues. Mostly sunny, warm days, and clear, cool nights. Afternoon highs will be in the 79-82 degree range most days, with lows in the mid to upper 50s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: No rain problems for high school football again this week; a clear sky tonight and tomorrow night with temperatures falling through the 60s during the games.

Auburn hosts Western Carolina Saturday at 1:00; the sky will be mostly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees; low 80s are possible by halftime. Alabama is on the road; they will visit the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear. About 68 degrees at kickoff; 50s are likely by the final whistle.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Perfect weather through Sunday with sunny warm days and fair cool nights from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Highs in the low 80s; lows in the 60s. Should be hard to find a decent cloud in the sky this weekend during the National Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores. Sea water temperatures remain in the 78-81 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: Alabama’s weather will remain dry Monday and Tuesday; the 12Z GFS still shows a band of showers moving into the state Wednesday, followed by much colder air Thursday and Friday. But, the ECMWF solution remains slower, and even hints the front could hang up around here before the colder air can reach us. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

TROPICS: The only feature of interest is the wave in the East Atlantic; if by chance anything develops there it will turn northward over the open Atlantic, and seems to be no threat to land. Over on the other side of the planet, Cyclone Phailin is approaching the southeast coast of India from the Bay of Bengal. It is expected to grow stronger before hitting the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha states Friday. Looks like it is the equivalent of a category five hurricane now based on satellite estimates; this could bring great damage and loss of life to parts of SE India.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
