Afternoon temperatures have maxed out across north-central Alabama and we will begin to see temperatures fall rapidly the rest of this afternoon. The brisk north winds evident across the state will continue to bring in a much colder air mass across the state over the next 24-36 hours.

It certainly has been a gray and gloomy day across the state and the clouds will hang around into the overnight hours. There are a few peeks of sun along and north of Highway 278 across north Alabama, but most locations remain socked in with the clouds. Heading into the overnight hours, the clouds should begin to break up and move out as a potent area of high pressure over the Upper-Midwest will settle towards the Southeast. With a clearing sky, temperatures will be well on their way to the 20s by tomorrow morning.
