JUST LIKE SUMMER: A classic case of “scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms” on radar this afternoon across Alabama.
Some are getting a heavy downpour, others with sunshine. Storms are moving northwest, and they should remain below severe limits.
OUR WEEKEND: The upper low west of the state is drifting to the west and will begin to lose it’s identity over the weekend. But, a moist airmass remains in place, and we will continue to forecast scattered showers and thunderstorms tomorrow and Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will be mostly in the mid 80s.
NEXT WEEK: An upper high begins to build, meaning increasing amounts of sunshine, hotter afternoon, and fewer showers and thunderstorms. A good chance we see highs around 90 by the middle of the week.
Global models continue to develop a tropical low in the Gulf of Mexico late next week, which meanders around with little motion for several days. SSTs (sea surface temperatures) are rather marginal for development after the cold winter, but we will keep an eye on model trends in coming days. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
GULF COAST WEATHER: A good chance of showers and storms again tomorrow from Panama City over to Gulf Shores, but look for increasing amounts of sunshine and fewer showers by Sunday and most of next week. Highs will remain in the 80s, and the sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 77 degrees.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
