The weather pattern for Central Alabama is changing ever so slowly as the pesky upper low that has been helping to produce widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms weakens and moves further away. The problem is that we will remain moist which means that we’re likely to see some showers chances for the next several days as temperatures slowly creep upward.
The evolution of this upper low that has been meandering just to our west for the last couple of days along with a strengthening ridge should bring about a decrease in shower chances and coverage by the middle of next week. Until then, showers remain likely each day, but not everyone will get rain each day. Confidence is high in the presence of showers, but there will be some variability in the coverage of those showers.
With a building ridge from Texas to the Southeast, temperatures should gradually increase, too, with highs climbing into the lower 90s for much of next week.
The upper low never actually goes away completely and eventually rekindles itself over the southern Gulf of Mexico where the GFS suggests the potential for some tropical mischief. We’re on the edge of voodoo country, so I’m certainly not going to begin calling that system Arthur just yet, but this solution is viable. The Pacific hurricane season got off to a rapid start with Amanda, so inspire of the expectations for a somewhat quiet year in the Atlantic Basin, it does not mean that we won’t get off to a fast start.
GULF COAST WEATHER: A good chance of showers and storms continues from Panama City to Gulf Shores, but look for increasing amounts of sunshine and fewer showers by Sunday and most of next week. Highs will remain in the 80s, and the sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab was being reported as 77 degrees.

Great time at the Dill Pickers concert in Helena last night. They are such an incredibly talented group of people, it is always a great pleasure to listen to their music for a couple of hours. The next Weather Xtreme Video will be posted Sunday morning. Godspeed.
