UPDATED 4:45 PM

One lone thunderstorm over North Alabama late this afternoon. It is centered near Fort Payne in Extreme NE Alabama.

However, I was driving the length of Deerfoot Parkway in the Trussville area a few minutes ago and the anvil top can be easily seen from NE Trussville.

Great visibility.

And…doppler radar measured the top of the thunderstorm at 51,000 feet. No wonder it can be seen so far.

LATER UPDATE/UPGRADED TO SEVERE
NWS Huntsville posted a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for that storm over South Dekalb County. The storm was centered about 10 mikes south of Rainsville and moving SE rather slowly at only 5 mph. The warning is for South Central Dekalb County until 5 o’clock.
It may have damaging winds over 60 mph and penny size hail.

And the usual very dangerous lightning.

While I am at it, here are a few 4 pm temperatures:

92 Haleyville
93 Huntsville
94 Decatur
93 Gadsden
96 Tuscaloosa and Montgomery
93 Birmingham
93 Shelby County Airport
94 Anniston
