Most locations across the state this afternoon are seeing a mix of sun and clouds, with hazy and muggy conditions. The weather is a bit uncomfortable, and early this afternoon, we are not seeing convection…yet. We are seeing some storms to our northwest and those are showing up as the brighter white clouds over Missouri and Arkansas. There is a threat of severe weather, but mainly to our northwest. With the unstable air mass in place and temperatures continuing to rise, we should begin to see showers and storms develop.
A look at the regional radar shows just a few storms over southern portions of the state. As storms develop today, they will more than likely pack a punch as the atmosphere over the state is very unstable. Expect strong and a few severe storms today that will be capable of producing damaging winds, as well as some hail, very heavy rainfall, and lots of lightning.
