The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and via iTunes.

Another hot and muggy day is on tap for Central Alabama, but this could be the last really hot day for at least a week as a fairly deep trough develops over the eastern half of the country. And severe weather becomes a concern for Thursday afternoon into Friday, and Dr. Tim Coleman has a nice discussion on that a couple of posts below.

A front is lingering across the Ohio River Valley today, but with the ridge nosing into the Southeast and the front lying approximately parallel to the upper flow, there is going to be little movement of that boundary. However, as the eastern US trough deepens Thursday there should be enough of a push to bring that front into Central Alabama. And if the GFS is correct, the deepening of the trough will force the front all the way into the northern Gulf paving the way for a nice weekend.

The weekend will seem a lot cooler with highs about 7 to 10 degrees cooler than the last few days plus dew points could fall back with drier air into the lower 60s. The combination of those two elements should make it feel great.

The upper trough inches toward the east by the first of next week, but it keeps a weakening northwesterly flow over us. This means we’ll definitely need to be watching embedded short waves in the flow which could produce large thunderstorm clusters and give us trouble. But those would be almost impossible to pinpoint this far in advance. At least we can be watching for them based on the pattern trends.

Voodoo country keeps a series of eastern US troughs, so there appears to be no likelihood of any excessive heat for the foreseeable future.

Tropics are quiet as the remnants of Edouard move through Texas.

I appreciate you tuning in to the Weather Xtreme Video. James Spann should be back in the saddle tomorrow morning all refreshed from a week off. I’m going to seek cooler weather by taking the travel trailer up to Mt. Cheaha for several days. I hope you have a great Wednesday. God bless.
