Rain continues to spread steadily eastward across Alabama this morning. Light rain was approaching Talladega and Anniston just before 9 o’clock.
The heavier rain was over West Alabama. By far, the heaviest rain of all was across a wide part of Central Mississippi where a number of counties were under a Flash Flood Watch.
The Storm Prediction Center has about the south half of Alabama under a slight risk of severe weather today and tonight. It is roughly from about Clanton southward. However, if a warm front can wiggle its way further north, we would need to be on watch.
A low pressure area will move eastward near the front, passing across Central Mississippi and across Central Alabama tonight and early tomorrow.
This system is overloaded with moisture. Upper air sounding by the NWS at Shelby County Airport this morning showed deep moisture
It is likely that as much as four inches of rain will drench Central and parts of South Alabama in the next 24 hours. This includes places like Tuscaloosa, Demopolis, Livingston, Centreville and Montgomery to name a few.
Across the Birmingham-Anniston area, more like one to two inches.
Lighter amounts as you go north and especially across the Tennessee Valley.
