It is very early (is there such a word as “ultra-early”?) on this Sunday morning. Nice cold Buffalo Rock because the all-night coffee no longer tastes good.
Enough of that–down to business:
The Tornado Watch continues until 9 this morning for about 20 counties in North Central and Central Alabama. (Scroll down where the watch is posted to see a list of the counties) No actual warnings currently in effect.
Shortly after 5:15, there was a spiral band of very heavy rain extending from South Talladega County NW across NE Shelby County into Downtown Birmingham. Moving NW. Little or no lightning. Another band was over in East Central Alabama, over Clay and Chambers County.
In North Alabama, some heavy rain over parts of Marion, Franklin, Lawrence, Cullman and Blount Counties. That too was moving NW.
All this can be blamed on Fay who is no longer a tropical storm. Tropical Depression Fay was centered over SW Alabama early today partially into SE Mississippi and moving WNW.
Even though she is Ex-Tropical Storm Fay, she is still throwing her weight (or her moisture) around and she will foul up Alabama weather for several more days. She will stall for a time and then what is left of her will head north and northeast.
So, here in Alabama rain and some thunderstorms will be very prominent into Wednesday. This includes locally heavy rain. When we finally write Fay;s obituary, we will have been soaked with several more inches of rain.
