Okay, how often do we use “July” and “chilly” in the same sentence? But it surely is that way this morning and will be that way tomorrow morning as well. All of this thanks to a rather unusually deep trough over the eastern half of the US that is bringing cooler and drier air to the Southeast and much of the eastern US. Temperatures this morning were in the 40s in parts of the Dakotas which is a fairly dramatic change from recent days.

And this discussion will be pretty short this morning because the forecast is pointing toward the establishment of this trough for the next week or perhaps even longer if the longer range GFS solutions are right. Now it does not mean that we’ll see this cool, dry situation stay with us because the trough will weaken beginning about Tuesday or Wednesday. This means that moisture will return and with it the possibility of daily scattered showers. But there is no sign of any unusual heat as we return to highs more typical of late July into the second half of the upcoming week.

Tropics remain relatively quiet with two disturbed areas way out in the Atlantic, neither of which is showing any signs of becoming a tropical system in the next 48 hours.

This is definitely a July weekend to get out and enjoy with such pleasant weather. My wife and I will continue to do volunteer work at Cheaha State Park – we still have a number of projects we are working on to help keep the place in tip top condition. The next Weather Xtreme Video should be posted Sunday morning no later than 8 am or so. Godspeed.
