COLD TONIGHT: Most communities will wind up in the 34 to 37 degree range early tomorrow, with a freeze likely for the colder valleys, and widespread frost elsewhere. The clouds that linger over Northwest Alabama this afternoon should be gone by midnight.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: Very nice autumn weather on these days. Sunny days with a high in the low 60s tomorrow, and mid 60s on Friday.

WEEKEND RAIN: Not much change in our thinking for the weekend. A surface low will form in the West Gulf of Mexico Friday, and spread rain along the Gulf Coast Friday night into Saturday. The 12Z run of the GFS confirms the idea that the heaviest and most widespread rain will remain over the southern third of Alabama. A little light rain is possible as far north as I-20, but most of North Alabama should miss the rain completely. Saturday will be cloudy and cool with a high around 60. For Sunday, the sky should become partly sunny by afternoon with a high in the low 60s.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Monday will be sunny and pleasant, but we will mention a chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night thanks to a strong negative tilt short wave passing through. The latest model runs suggest that moisture and instability could be insufficient for any serious severe weather problems, but it is a little far out to really be specific. We will keep an eye on this as the event gets closer. The sky should become mostly sunny on Wednesday.

Sharply colder air will invade Alabama on Thanksgiving Day; see the Weather Xtreme video for details. Highs could drop into the 40s, and a significant freeze seems likely by Friday morning. Friday (11/27) seems cold and dry; a great day for shopping, and for the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

LONG RANGE: We will surely have to keep an eye on the very cold air over Alaska; it was as cold as 45 below zero up there this morning, and we all know that air has to move at some point. We are seeing hints some of it could arrive around the first of December.
