The lingering rain over the eastern side of the state will move into Georgia within the next few hours, and the headline today will be the change to cooler temperatures. Temperatures will slowly fall this morning, and we should hover in the mid 50s much of the day today with a chilly north wind, which will gust at times to 25 mph. The clearing process should begin from west to east this afternoon.
COOL WEEKEND: We expect a good supply of sunshine both tomorrow and Sunday, with a high near 60 degrees on both days. Early morning readings will be well down in the 30s, and many spots could touch the freezing mark briefly.
NEXT WEEK: The 00Z run of the GFS suggests we stay dry all week with highs in the 70s. A cold front to the north will bring rain to Kentucky and Tennessee early in the week, but this will run out of gas before having a chance to impact Alabama. And, late in the week, an upper trough over the Southwest U.S. will move only very slowly. The GFS is now suggesting the rain holds off until Sunday March 25.
LONG RANGE: Still some hint of mischief around the end of the month. The 00Z GFS develops a very deep upper level low west of Alabama, and if this happens to be correct we might have a chance of strong to severe storms in the March 28-30 time frame, followed by a change to colder temperatures. This is all voodoo at this point, but it bears watching since there has been some consistency.
