Scattered storms are bringing welcome relief to the heat and dryness across parts of Central Alabama this afternoon.
The main concentrations are…
…over Northwest Alabama’s Franklin and Lawrence Counties spreading southward into Marion and Winston Counties.
…over a large part of Cullman County moving into Southwestern Blount County, northern Jefferson and NE Walker County.
…over western Jefferson County between Concord and Hueytown with a big storm along the Tuscaloosa County line.
…over southern St. Clair County and northeastern Shelby County near and south of Moody.
…over Blount and southern Marshall Counties.
…over northern Calhoun and Cleburne Counties in East Alabama.
The storms are producing torrential rains and deadly lightning. A tree was reported down near Ellisville in Cherokee County, so strong wind gusts are possible as well.
The storm are knocking the edge off the heat, dropping the mercury down to 89F at Pleasant Grove according to Richard Viola.
Flooding has been reported in Cullman at Beech Avenue and Sheraton Street with Ayer in businesses.
