Just a few notes…

* 28 degrees at Vinemont, in North Cullman County reported by Mike Wilhelm

* Deck completely covere by ice at Smokerise near where Blount, Jefferson and Cullman County come together. Smokerise is in a higher terrain area.

* A gentleman driving on U.S. 431 along the Etowah-Calhoun County line reported rain freezing on his windshield.

* 32 degrees in Gardendale at 6 am

* 32 degrees at Sylvan Springs in West Jefferson County. They checked on nearby highway 269 West but no indications of ice.

* 34 at Munford, in Talladega County at 7:05

* 35 with a cold rain at Attalla, near Gadsden

* 33 at Birmingham Airport. It has been hanging out within a degree or so of that for hours.

* So far, areas NW of Birmingham have had more experience with ice, but still not a widespread major icing event. Several school systems closed in places like Marion and Walker County. See the latest closings here.

* We will post a lot more spot reports by around 7:30.

* Cup number 6 on my delicious and delectable and scrumptious coffee consumption since I crawled out of bed at 2:30 am. Zero poptarts or doughnuts.
