A weakening weather system has the potential to bring a little light rain to Alabama today, but don’t get your hopes up for a big rain event. Sure looks like rain amounts today will be a tenth of an inch or less for most communities, and some places won’t see a single drop. The best rain will most likely fall over the southwest part of the state, and even there amounts will be light.
TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: Beautiful spring weather is the story, with mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights. Highs will be generally in the 70s with lows in the 40s, although we will be close to 80 on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
The 00Z run of the GFS keeps Alabama rain-free through the first half of next week; it now holds off the next big rain event until Thursday April 26. That one sure looks wet and has some potential to bring beneficial rain to the state. This run brings in drier air on Friday April 27, but another upper trough brings another batch of rain over the following weekend. There is no way to resolve timing and intensity issues so far in advance, but the 00Z GFS suggests the best chance of rain will come Saturday night and early Sunday morning. But, remember, that will probably change as we get closer to the event.
A mean upper trough continues to show up over the eastern half of the U.S. as we begin the month of May, which means temperatures over the eastern U.S. will remain below normal.
