Consider these late afternoon temperatures that were accompanied by strong south winds gusting between 30-40 mph in many areas. Not exactly like standing in the door of a blast furnace, but this will dehydrate you in a hurry.

I stopped for gasoline once on U.S. 66 in the Texas Panhandle east of Amarillo. Temperature was 105 with winds over 30 and blowing dust. A thunderstorm cut loose and huge drops of rain left little dust splatters on my car and even on the top of my head. I did not finish gassing up because I am afraid of lightning. The petro was 17 cents per gallon.

OKLAHOMA

107 Clinton, south gusts 36

TEXAS
108 Canadian, wind south gusts 32
108 Possom Kingdom
104 Austin
107 Turkey (yes, there is a town called Turkey)
105 Pecos (will never forget that town)

The SST (sea surface temperature) at Galveston Pier was 93. Yummy, yummy to a hurricane.

We have another report of a high of 115 this afternoon at Buffalo, Okla.
