Yes, one of sorts, but not an earthshaking event like our two earthquakes.

Tomorrow morning is the latest in the year that Birmingham has ever recorded a temperature freezing or lower. The record for April 23 is 30 in 1986. We think that the danger of a killing frost after that data is (unheard of) (very, very unlikely) But not an outright “money-you-back guarantee.”

Isn’t there an old, old saying that records are made to be broken.

Interesting to note that Birmingham had mid-30s as late as May 4. Might have been a trace of frost in the valleys on that date. The latest we have had a low in the 30s was May 13, 1960 with 38. We have had a low of 40 as late as May 31, 1984 and a low of 42 on June 1, 1966!

THIS MORNING
There was some scattered light frost this morning at both Scrougeout and Broomtown, in NE Alabama. Here are few selected lows for this Wednesday morning:

31 Broomtown
32 Scrougeout
36 Fort payne Airport, Meridianville
37 Crossville, Pinson
38 Noccalula Falls
39 Wynnville (south of Snead and east of Susan Moore) Cullman Airport and Anniston Airport

ANOTHER MILESTONE?
Coldest I can find in Alaska this morning is an even zero. If this holds up, it will be the first morning withoiut sub-zero since last autumn. Remember, back in the coldest part of the winter when it was about 62 below zero at Chicken, Alaska? (What a name!)
