Another chilly morning for Alabama, but we warm up quickly today; most communities will rise into the mid to upper 70s this afternoon with sunshine through high clouds. The high clouds are advancing into the state in advance of a weakening upper trough that has the potential to bring a few showers after midnight tonight and through the morning hours tomorrow. Once again, no drought buster; the NAM shows only 0.10″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is at 0.20″. The best chance of showers will come from about 4:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon.
THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: This period will feature a benign weather pattern with mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights. All of the weather action will remain well to the west of Alabama, severe storms are possible across the nation’s mid-section on Saturday, and possibly Sunday, but those won’t bother us this weekend.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The weather pattern will begin to turn wet next week, not necessarily the best news for NASCAR fans coming into Talladega, but great news for a state that is in bad need of more rain. The GFS is hinting at a good rain event on Wednesday of next week, April 25, with more rain at times Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday (April 27-29). But, lets remember this is voodoo right now and we don’t want to be too specific this far in advance. But the pattern does favor a wet period here during the last week of the month.
Interesting to note the GFS builds a long wave upper trough over the eastern U.S. around the first of May with yet another late season cool snap. This is the winter that just won’t go away for the Great Lakes and the Northeast U.S.
