This great old church in Northeast Birmingham is over 100 years old. In fact, a big centennial celebration a few weeks ago.

It is Huffman Baptist Church and it has been in this same location from day one. It has been our home church for 25 plus years. Our daughter got married there on a very stormy night.

Our pastor, Dr. Tim Lovett, urged us several years ago to not pack up and move to more enticing locations. The church agreed and we plan to minister to this part of the city and county.

I am a tree lover, so I always watch these trees year round. the pleasant autumn foliage gives the church a real pastoral look. I think that is always good when a church can have good landscaping and in a scenic location.

After a few cold fronts and a few storms, these leaves will all be on the parking lot. The trees will take on a stark winter appearance. To me that is also a beautiful scene second only to autumn. Of course, everything greens up in spring–a time of refreshing and re-commitment.

We also have a great music program. Only thing unusual–our Minister of Music, Dennis Altizer, has a cat named “computer cat.”

Life goes on and we hope Huffman Baptist will be around for another 100 years. By that time, I will be 176 years old and my little doggie, Miss Molly will be 106. She will still be chasing cats and rabbits. (PS: You can click on the picture if you want to make it larger)
