Part two to a lovely pair of weekend days even with a weak front traversing the area today. While the front may generate an isolated shower or two, we stay mainly dry with temperatures a few degrees cooler than yesterday along with a shift in the wind to the north-northwest. Highs today will be mainly in the middle 60s.

Weak ridging will keep us in good weather for the start of the work week on Monday with highs climbing back to the lower 70s. The low latitude closed low will come out of northern Mexico Tuesday coming across the Gulf Coast region. We will remain dry through much of Tuesday with clouds increasing. Rain chances should become widespread Tuesday night and into Wednesday, but since the system is moving briskly across the area, we should see improving conditions by Wednesday afternoon and evening.

A strong trough moving out of the northern Rockies on Wednesday will bring colder air into the Southeast US as highs fall back into the 50s for Wednesday and Thursday. Frost will be a possible problem for Thursday morning with low temperatures once again dipping back to just below freezing – into the upper 20s for some of those colder spots. We stay in a trough into the weekend so temperatures will recover a bit for Friday and into the weekend, but some reinforcing short waves should keep temperatures in check. Moisture levels remain limited, so any rain chances for next weekend seem limited based on the latest information.

Looking out into voodoo country, the pattern remains active according to the GFS but there are some changes from the run we saw yesterday morning. The GFS maintains the long wave trough position over the Mississippi River Valley around the 18th, and then it flattens the pattern significantly by the 23rd and 24th. Even with the flattening of the pattern to something nearly zonal, the GFS maintains a series of short waves moving through the zonal flow, so we stay active but warmer.
