The weather in Alabama will stay warm and dry today with a high in the mid 80s for most spots; some communities will reach the upper 80s. To the west, a nice upper low continues to spin away near Childress, Texas, and to the north a cold front is sagging southward (well to the north of Alabama). Both of the these features will weaken as they slowly move out way, but hopefully the combination of them, and increasing low level moisture, will bring scattered showers and storms to our state later in the week. At this point the chance of rain tomorrow looks pretty small, but by Thursday and Friday afternoon we figure the radar will have at least something to show in the form of scattered showers and storms.
Again I stress the word “scattered” is the important one here since rainfall distribution will not be even at all; but hopefully some towns will see a good shower. And, the warm, humid weather will continue into the weekend and we will maintain the chance of “scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms’ into Saturday and Sunday. Highs for the weekend should be generally in the low 80s, although there is some hint of a wedge of cooler air moving into Alabama on Sunday, which might drop highs into the 70s.
LONG RANGE: The primary core of the main storm track over North America will remain well to the north of Alabama for the next 10 days, according to the GFS, but we remain in a rather moist, soupy airmass that will support the daily chance of scattered showers and storms for much of next week. The bottom line is that we don’t expect a big, organized rain event anytime soon, but we will have a chance of catching a hit and miss shower almost any day beginning Thursday of next week.
