NWS/Birmingham has extended the Tornado Warning for North Greene County in West Alabama until 5:00. Around 4:30, the severe thunderstorm that could still produce a tornado was about 13 miles south of Aliceville and moving NE rather slowly at 7 mph. It should be in the Union community by around 5:00. NWS/Birmingham is watching this closely for the possibility that a warning will need to be issued for Tuscaloosa County.
The Tornado Watch continues until 11:00 tonight for NW and Central Alabama. Except for the action in Greene County, thunderstorms have weakened considerably, but we expect a resurge of strong thunderstorms later tonight. We still have a cold front to come through late tonight, probably after midnight, so we could have a line of storms.
We will be burning the midnight oil and soaking the 2:00 a.m. coffee.
