Thunderstorms continue this evening in a relatively unstable airmass across North Alabama.
The main activity is just west of I-65 from western Cullman County up into the Huntsville/Decatur area. This activity will probably hold together as it moves westward into Northwest Alabama where dewpoints are higher. Expect a fair amount of dangerous lightning and some gusty winds as well as brief heavy rains.
But in the Metro area, a pretty good thunderstorm has flared over western sections of Birmingham. It has fired in response to an old outflow boundary moving southeastward from earlier storms over Northwest Alabama. It peaked when it was over US-78 in the Forestdale area just after 7 p.m. The slightly weakened storm will produce gusty winds and lightning as it moves west over places like Minor and Mulga.
These storms may backbuild to the southwest along and just west of I-59/20 with some more development back toward eastern Tuscaloosa County.
No severe weather is occurring now and nothing is really expected as we lose the heating of the day.
Weakening showers are over DeKalb County, west of I-59, moving southwestward.
