DUSTY DAYS: The very dry pattern will most likely continue into next week, with temperatures remaining above average for mid-September in Alabama. The average high today is 85 degrees, but once again we should rise into the low 90s with a good supply of sunshine. The sky should be partly to mostly sunny tomorrow and Friday, despite a weak surface boundary approaching from the north. You might see a speck or two on radar tomorrow or Friday afternoon, but the chance of any one neighborhood getting wet is so small, we won’t mention it in our formal forecast. And, highs will stay in the low 90s.
OUR WEEKEND: The GFS is printing 93 Saturday, and 94 Sunday, so don’t look for “sweater weather” this weekend for sure. It will feel more like August. Lows will be generally in the 60s, and both days should feature a good supply of sunshine.
NEXT WEEK: Pretty much the same story Monday and Tuesday, but a little increase in moisture over the latter half of the week could bring at least some risk of scattered showers. Still, no sign of any widespread rain.
TROPICAL TRIO: Hurricanes Igor and Julia in the Atlantic are major hurricanes, but they will recurve well east of the U.S. coast. Igor could be very close to Bermuda over the weekend, however. And, Tropical Storm Karl will move across the Yucatan Peninsula today, with a second landfall along the coast of Mexico Friday night as a category one hurricane, well south of Brownsville, Texas. None of these systems will impact the Central Gulf Coast. Scroll down for an amazing high-res satellite loop of Igor.
VOODOO LAND: The 00Z GFS does show a tropical system in the Gulf later this month, but with a landfall on the Texas coast. See the Weather Xtreme video for details. We still have a long way to go this hurricane season, and there is lots of latent heat energy stored in the Gulf waiting to be released and transferred.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
