WARMER DAYS: Look for a high in the upper 80s today, and around 90 tomorrow as a warming trend kicks in for Alabama and the Deep South. Humidity levels will slowly rise as well, reminding us this is August and not October. The weather will stay dry with mostly sunny days.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: I am not convinced it rains much on these days; we have mentioned a slight risk of a shower Thursday afternoon, with some risk of scattered showers on Friday. But, the 00Z GFS hints at only very limited moisture, so I don’t rain will be much of a problem for high school football games as the 2009 season begins. Highs will remain in the 87 to 90 degree range.
THE WEEKEND: The 00Z GFS has come in much slower with our cold front… let’s look at the 12Z run before we make any changes. Our ongoing forecast shows a chance of scattered showers and storms on Saturday, followed by a surge of dry air Sunday. The 00Z GFS hints the front won’t make it through here until Sunday night. So, a low confidence forecast for now due to the conflicting model output. That new surge of dry air will make it, it is just a matter of when.
One way or another the first part of next week looks very nice with sunny days, clear nights, cool mornings, and low humidity. A pretty decent chance we visit the 50s again Monday and Tuesday morning.
TROPICS: The tropical disturbance northeast of the Leeward Islands in the Atlantic has a chance to become Tropical Storm Danny in coming days… see the Weather Xtreme video for details. The upper trough that is building over the eastern U.S. should put this one on a track very similar to Hurricane Bill… recurving off the East Coast of the U.S. Some of the intensity models bring this up to a category one hurricane in 120 hours. Another disturbance is moving into Central America from the far western Caribbean, with no chance of development due to the interaction with land. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will post the notes on this week’s new episode shortly… but the show is available now for your listening pleasure.
