Lots of reports of sleet all morning and within the last couple of hours a good number of snow flurry reports. Just got an e-mail from Robert Trent Oxmoor Valley Golf Course. The gentleman said it has been sleeting all morning and it is now snowing heavily with large wet flakes. He added that the entire valley was whited out.

From Haleyville, a report from Jamey Mays at 12:51 p.m. He reported that the snow was coming down at a very good clip at 960 feet. He estimates the visibility at 1/2 to 1 mile. So far, no sleet in that area–it has been all snow flurries.

In Trussville, Teresa Hamaker reported snow at 12:51 p.m. with a mix of sleet and snow for about 30 minutes.

So far in the NE edge of Trussville (my location), no snow so far and light sleet started just before 1:00.

From Cordova, a cell phone photograph shows some snow accumulating on an automobile windshield.

From Debby Clayton, she reported snow at the Clay City Hall on Old Springville Road.

Ruth Crumly reports snowflakes in Center Point for the last 15 minutes or so.

Tina Young (my neighbor), reports sleet and snow on the UAB campus since about 12:15.

Josh Reidinger, atop Shades Mountain in Vestavia, reports 37 degrees. Precipitation started as sleet and rain about 90 minutes ago and then almost all moderate snow. It has now backed off to light snow and a little sleet. A later report from Josh indicates that it changed to almost all snow with big flakes at 1:14 p.m. and that it was sticking on exposed surfaces. The temperature has dropped to 35 at his location.

33/40 skywatcher, Daniel, in the Talladega/Oxford area, reports moderate sleet and snow mixed in Talladega. In Pleasant Grove, Richard Viola, reports snow with some spots white on the ground.

Ryan Parr, reports that it is mostly snow in Hamilton and Winfield as of 1:15 with at least nickel-size snowflakes and coming down pretty good. Jan reports snow in Nauvoo, but that it was not sticking because of the warm ground. Rick Jackson reports snow in Glen Allen and sent a photograph. The accumulation was very light.

We are getting too many reports to mention all of them here. The snowflakes are making a lot of people jump up and down with glee. However, precipitation should gradually change back to a mix of light sleet and rain. We do not expect any travel problems here in Central Alabama.

Scroll down to an earlier report for some regional travel trouble spots, including part of the higher terrain in extreme NE Alabama.
