In the heat of the afternoon, scattered thunderstorms were developing with a little better coverage than at this same time yesterday. The storms were very slow-movers allowing them to dump heavy rain over a relatively small area.

From about Cullman southward, the showers and storms were very scarce. Most of them were over the extreme north. This has prompted the National Weather Service in Huntsville to post Significant Weather Alerts in these counties:
Lauderdale
Limestone
Madison
DeKalb

Usually these Significant Weather Alerts mention wind gusts 40-50 mph, very dangerous lightning and hailstones up to 1/2 inch in diameter. The Significant Weather Alerts fall short of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.

Away from the Tennessee Valley, there was a fairly good thunderstorm over extreme South Marion County in NW Alabama very close to Guin. That one was trying to move slowly toward the SW.
