Precipitation was diminishing over a number of counties in Alabama early this evening. There is a break in the steady precipitation in the Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Jasper area and southward into the SW part of the state.
By far, the most significant precipitation was over the eastern counties. It seems that Clay, Randolph and Cleburne Counties may have been affected by the snow more than most.
Late this afternoon, there was 1 inch of snow on the ground at Ranburne.
Numerous locations report that the snow whitened the grassy areas, decks and roofs. A lot of places got 1/2 inch or more. Just a few recent reports:
+ The intersection of 278 and U.S. 431 at Attalla in the Gadsden area was reported very slippery.
+ The EMA in Cleburne County (extreme East Alabama) reports at least 8 calls concerning wrecks on various roads in the county.
+ Three accidents reported on Highway 21 between Jacksonville and Anniston.
This is only a partial list. We will be here all evening updating the blog, so stay tuned. Also, scroll down to see a lot of nice snow pictures in various locations.
