Showers and thunderstorms were well underway across Alabama Sunday morning at this time. However, on this Memorial Day morning, they are cranking up much slower.

At 8:00 only isolated ones had developed. Most of the shower, including a few thunderstorms, were over the SW part of the state mainly over Monroe, Concecuh and Escambia Counties. A small isolated thunderstorm in Central Alabama had formed over East Chilton County right in the center of Alabama. Other showers were over extreme North Alabama. The showers so far this morning have a more easterly component as compared to yesterday.

Showers and thunderstorms will be increasing in number as the day goes on. We may do more frequent BLOG updates today because of so many outdoor activities.

Upper air data shows that the upper level low-pressure area is beginning to disintegrate but over part of NW Alabama this morning. The cold pocket aloft is the reason for the enhanced development of showers and storms.

You never hear us mention the drought word anymore. There is a good chance of showers and thunderstorms as the day goes on. Not quite as many are expected on Tuesday, then from Wednesday through Friday maybe a 1 in 3 chance of any one location.

Next weekend (Saturday and Sunday) looks mostly dry but hotter in the afternoon.
