Several reports of sleet this morning over West/Central Alabama as a band of precipitation spreads toward the NE. Here are some sleet reports:

On I-65 in South Jefferson County
Cottondale, east of Tuscaloosa. For a time, the sleet was not mixed with rain at that location.
Near VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa

WTXT Radio in Tuscaloosa reports light rain.

The latest upper air sounding, from the National Weather Service at Shelby County Airport, indicates that the temperature drops below freezing at about 9,000 feet. However, the air is very dry under 8,000, so there is some evaporative cooling taking place. Latest radar shows that the light precipitation has spread as far north as the Birmingham area. As the temperature rises, it should become all rain later. The rain is heavier across parts of South Alabama, especially in parts of South/Central Alabama.
