I would not be surprised to hear of some 2-inch rain amounts in Calhoun County later. The heaviest rain has now moved over to near the Georgia border, but it was pouring over much of Calhoun County for a time.

Very strong thunderstorms also continue in Central Alabama.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS

* The NWS in Huntsville issued one for Colbert County until 3:15.

* Minutes ago, the NWS/Birmingham issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Chilton County, right in the center of Alabama. It lasts until 3:30. Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm, possibly producing nickel-size hail. It was centered 6 miles south of Maplesville or about 21 miles NE of Selma and moving SE at 10 mph.

A line of intense thunderstorms now moving into extreme NW Alabama. That is what triggered the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Colbert County. The line of storms will continue to push SE slowly, but so far the NWS Storm Prediction Center is not planning on issuing a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.

This is, by far, the most beneficial rain event that we have had in weeks.
