Showers and thunderstorms continue to increase and move eastward in a broad zone from NE Alabama southwestward into the west-central part of the state. They were moving generally toward the east. Some of the strongest storms and heavier rain was over SW and West Jefferson County approaching the City of Birmingham. Part of Eastern Tuscaloosa County is also getting heavy rain.
The NWS/Birmingham extended a Significant Weather Alert for Jefferson County until 1:00 o’clock, based on a thunderstorm that was in progress in the Hueytown area and moving east at 25 mph.
All of these showers and storms are out ahead of the main line of thunderstorms that extended across Arkansas and West and North Tennessee. Those storms are in association with a cold front moving slowly SE. Severe Thunderstorm Watches now cover all of Tennessee, much of Arkansas, extreme North Mississippi, most of Kentucky and into West Virginia and Ohio.
