Cold air is the weather word very early on this Sunday morning. The leading edge of the colder air–known as the cold front–was moving into the Birmingham area at midnight. By daybreak, temperatures should be in the lower 30s.
Rain was still falling as the colder air moved in. It may change over to some snow flurries over the Extreme North before daybreak. Even the Birmingham area could see a few flurries Sunday morning. They should be harmless.
The flurries may persist a little longer over NE Alabama, especially in the elevated areas such as Sand Mountain and Lookout Mountain. It will be clearing over the entire area later today.
For Sunday night, we face the coldest temperatures we have seen so far this season. We are using 19 as the average low across Central Alabama. Some of the outlying areas may be a couple of degrees colder. Up in the valleys of North Alabama, we could even have some temperatures as low as 15 early Monday morning.
The order of the day is to bundle up. NW winds today of 15-25 with some gusts 30 or higher will send that wind chill a lot lower than you would like. The wind will gradually diminish late this afternoon and tonight.
