The main precipitation in Alabama at this early hour (4:30 am) is a 50-mile wide band of rain, moderate to heavy. It extended generally from the Mobile area northeastward to Monroeville, Troy, Union Springs, Auburn, Opelika and Phenix City.

The whole rain system continues to shift toward the SE, There were also some thunderstorms in the Mobile area.

Rain has mostly ended for now over North and most of Central Alabama. There was a patch of showers over Hale and Perry County in West Central Alabama and also Clay and Talladega County in East Alabama.

The morning drive to work and school for much of North and Central Alabama should not be bothered by a threat of heavy rain. But look for some patches of dense fog, especially in areas that had downpours of rain during the night.

This does not mean the rain is gone for good. Scattered showers will develop later today and there will be an increase in showers and thunderstorms again Thursday.

By Friday, much cooler air will overspread the area from the NW featuring low temperatures in the 40s Friday night.

This will probably be our last blog update until the regular morning video discussion that James will post around 6:15 a.m.

As for me, I am headed for a 90-minute super-duper power nap. Will be up not later than 6 as the scent of delicious and delectable fresh coffee floats through the air!

Many thanks to Bill Murray for his blog posts during the middle of the night. He did those from California. That guy gets around!

If time permits, we will try to post a list of rain amounts from this overnight rain event.
