Some of the stronger thunderstorms early this evening were along the Chilton/Coosa County line right in the heart of Central Alabama. NWS/Birmingham indicated the thunderstorm was practically stationary. It could still produce gusts to 45 mph and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. This storm will affect mainly the SE part of Chilton County during the next hour. Places like Verbena, Cooper and the Enterprise communities. It was also raining heavily over the east part of Autauga County.

In NE Alabama, the central and eastern part of Etowah County has been getting a drenching. As of 6:20, the 33/40 skycam overlooking Gadsden had measured 0.61 rain.

Over in West Alabama, there was a very small thunderstorm along the Walker/Fayette County line. NWS says it is stationary, but it could still produce gusts up to 45. It is one of the smaller storms of the day.

GREATER BIRMINGHAM AREA
Nothing going on in Jefferson and Shelby Counties at 6:30. The nearest storm was the one over West Walker County moving away and the ones down over the SE corner of Chilton County about 50 miles to the south. This does not mean that one could not develop closer in to the Birmingham area.

Bunches and bunches of cloud-to-ground lightning strokes with these storms today. Can’t be too cautious. Lightning is frightening. Coincidentally, this is Lightning Awareness Week.
