That area of very heavy rain and thunderstorms over West/Central Alabama continues to edge closer and closer to the Birmingham area. It has been pouring rain over part of that area for the last couple of hours or so. As a result, the NWS continues a Flash Flood Warning for these areas:
…..South Bibb County, including Centreville and Brent
…..Perry County, including Marion
…..NE Hale County

Up to 2 inches of additional rain is expected in the next hour on top of 3 inches that has already fallen. Besides the heavy rain, the National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement (Significant Weather Alert) for Bibb, Jefferson, Shelby and Tuscaloosa Counties until 7:30. They also have posted an Aerial Flood Advisory for Jefferson, Shelby and Tuscaloosa. That falls short of a Flash Flood Warning.

They issued the Special Weather Statement because the a line of strong thunderstorms from near Abernant in East Tuscaloosa County to Tannehill State Park to Wilton in Bibb County. That is also along a line from 15 miles SW of Hueytown to 8 miles SW of Bessemer to 6 miles west of Montevallo. The storms were moving NE at 30 mph. The storms will impact North Johns, Oakgrove, Silura, Sylvan Springs and the Horizon Music Center at Oak Mountain. The strong winds could knock down small trees, tree limbs and power lines.

We will watch them closely as they get closer and closer to Birmingham.
