Not as many showers and thunderstorms around the state early this evening. Strangely enough, the radar looks sort of like a ring of showers and storms. Scattered and storms are all the way down the east side of the state and then curving westward across the Tennessee Valley and then some scattered ones along the west side. A big part of the center of the state is getting a break from the rain. This includes places like Jasper, Birmingham and Ashville southward to south and SW of Montgomery.
Some of the heavier showers and storms:
* Chambers County in East/Central Alabama. Heavy rain at Lafayette. NWS issued a Significant Weather Alert for Chambers and Lee County until 7:45.
* SE Franklin County in NW Alabama. NWS in Huntsville posted a Significant Weather Alert for that one.
The showers and storms were moving ever so slowly toward the north and NE.
GREATER BIRMINGHAM AREA
No showers within about 40 miles to the south and SW. City Stages in progress.
GADSDEN AND RIVERFEST
Still getting showers over the east half of Etowah County including some moderate to heavy rain between Gadsden and Anniston. Earlier, 1.14 inches of rain was measured at Rainbow City in one hour. That is just south of Gadsden. Maybe we will have some other rain amounts later this evening.
