Finally, the little front we have been looking for is edging into extreme North Alabama. The dew point has dropped to 68 in Muscle Shoals and 65 in Tupelo, which is pretty much the leading edge of the drier air. Nashville is reporting a dew point of only 60 and Memphis 59.

Meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms stubbornly hung on this evening and produced some locally heavy rain. Based on radar estimates, more than 3 inches probably occurred over North Calhoun County. The National Weather Service continues an area Flood Advisory until 10:15 for North Calhoun County and Cherokee County and part of Cleburne County. This includes Piedmont and Jacksonville.

Shortly after 8:00, doppler radar estimates indicate 2 to 3 inches of rain over part of the area and some places will get 1 to 2 inches of additional rain in the next few hours. The heaviest rain at 8:00 p.m. was across North Calhoun County, extending into extreme North Cleburne County and South Cherokee County. That very heavy rain also extends on eastward to north of Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Valley and extreme NW Alabama was free of showers. More showers and thunderstorms were over SW Alabama, including the Mobile area. The thunderstorm that moved across North Jefferson County earlier dumped very heavy rain, but that storm has mostly diminshed.
