Storms are moving across Birmingham metro area early on this Sunday morning. The severe weather threat has ended for Birimingham. The tornado watch has been cancelled for Jefferson and Shelby Counties as well as several other North and Central Alabama counties.
The following counties have been cleared from the watch…Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Etowah, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega and Walker Counties.
These counties are still in the watch…Bibb, Chilton, Choctaw, Clarke, Dallas, DeKalb, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Marshall, Perry, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, washington and Wilcox. The watch goes until 3 a.m. but many more counties will be cleared in advance of the expiration time.
The storms are producing occasional lightning and very heavy rains. An urban and small stream advisory has been issued for Jefferson and Shelby Counties due to the heavy rain.
Winds are beginning to die down tonight. A wind advisory remains in effect, but will likely be allowed to expire or be cancelled. Still, it will be breezy tomorrow with west winds at about 10-18 mph.
The rain should be gone by early morning except perhaps over extreme eastern sections. Skies will clear at least parially during the day.
