We are watching a complex of thunderstorms over Tennessee this afternoon. It has turned more southward over the past couple of hours.

It may mainly affect West Alabama this afternoon and evening.

There is additional light to moderate rain diving southeastward across Middle Tennessee west of Nashville. This rainfall activity will affect North and Central Alabama later this afternoon and evening if it holds together.

High clouds from the Tennessee thunderstorms have overspread the northern third of the state at this hours.

Temperatures are in the middle and upper 80s in the I-20 corridor.

Moisture levels are actually a little low over Alabama, but there is going to be sufficient instability to push CAPE values to 1500-2000 j/kg. This will feed any storms that manage to work their way into the state or develop across the area during the afternoon.

There could be additional storms overnight tonight developing to the north and sliding our way.

It’s more of the same tomorrow with a continued northerly flow aloft and a cool front encroaching on the Kentucky/Tennessee border.

There could be some strong gusty winds and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a warning or two today or tomorrow.

Monitor the radar and the sky through the afternoon and go inside if you see tall clouds developing in your area or hear thunder.
