Thunderstorms have erupted in the moist, hot air over the Tennessee Valley along an old boundary. Individual storms were located from just northwest of Moulton in Lawrence County, across Madison in Madison County, to just east of Huntsville and just west of Hytop. The Huntsville NWS had also issued a warning for Madison County and Lawrence County valid until 3:00 pm. Damaging wind along with marginally severe hail of less than an inch are the most likely threats together with lightning.

Elsewhere across Central Alabama it was just plain hot with temperatures in the lower and mid 90s. The one exception was 82 at Gadsden which was affected in the last 30 minutes by an isolated thunderstorm that moved by just to the west of the city. That storm had moved to just southeast of Ashville.

Thunderstorms will continue to develop and move generally south-southeast through the afternoon.

We’re also watching developments in the northeast Gulf of Mexico where an upper level disturbance may be trying to form a tropical depression.
