A lone thunderstorm has moved into the NW corner of Alabama and at 9:20 a.m. was over Central Lauderdale County. Other showers were moving into Colbert and Franklin Counties. All were moving toward the NE.

However, the big picture is further west.

The main line of thunderstorms extended from SE Missouri, across NW and West Arkansas, into NE Texas.

A new Tornado Watch has been posted for a rather broad area until 3 o’clock this afternoon. It includes…

…extreme NE Texas
…extreme NW Louisiana
…most of Arkansas, except NW
…SE tip of Missouri

The Watch extends as far east as the Mississippi River along the Arkansas/Tennessee border and along the Arkansas/Mississippi line.

The NWS/Storm Prediction Center has a Slight Risk posted for a very large area today and tonight all the way from the south parts of Louisiana and Mississippi and extreme NW Alabama and the west half of Tennessee northward to Lake Michigan. This includes such cities as Little Rock, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Chicago and Indianapolis.

Within that Slight Risk area is an Enhanced Moderate Risk for about the east half of Arkansas, extreme West Tennessee, NW Mississippi and extreme North Louisiana. The Moderate Risk area includes such places as Greenwood and Greenville, Mississippi, Memphis and Little Rock.

It is going to be a very busy time today, tonight and Saturday and we will have lots of updates here on the blog, especially when the main action reaches Alabama.

Numerous storm reports overnight in the central part of the country, including several tornadoes.
