DRY AIR TAKES OVER: Dry air will cover the northern half of Alabama through the middle of next week, and there is a reasonable chance that we will go 8 consecutive days with no rain. Now, let me clearly say that there might be a day or two along the way when a few isolated showers pop up on radar during the afternoon hours, but no doubt the deeper moisture will be over far South Alabama. Daytime highs will be around 90, with lows around 70. A very simple forecast, and one that is great for fireworks shows, lake outings, or any other outdoor event over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
TO THE SOUTH: Unfortunately the weather will be wet at times along the Gulf Coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through much of next week, where deep tropical moisture will be in place. In fact, the 12Z GFS continues the idea of some kind of tropical low forming around Mobile by the middle of next week, which could enhance rain totals to the east. The GFS brings that low northward, and shows rain for all of Alabama by the end of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
TROPICS: Alex is inland and in the process of dissipating over Mexico; the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet for now. Again, we will have to watch the extreme northern Gulf of Mexico for some kind of backyard development next week.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
