CLOUDS STILL THERE: Yet another cloudy, cool morning across Alabama, with most communities in the 40s at daybreak. You have to go down to South Alabama to find a clear sky. I am not sure today will be all that different from yesterday; but we should at least see a few intervals of sunshine with a high around the 60 degree mark. Still below average for mid-March, but not quite as cool as yesterday. The day will be dry.

TOMORROW AND THURSDAY: We will continue to mention a chance of isolated showers on these two days, but most places will be dry with only limited moisture and dynamics. The chance of any one spot getting wet is about one in eight. Temperatures will gradually trend upward, with a high in the low 60s tomorrow, and mid 60s on Thursday.

Friday still promises to be the best day of the week, with a good supply of sunshine and a high around 70 degrees.

OUR WEEKEND: Saturday still looks pretty decent with a high close to 70 degrees, but clouds will increase during the day thanks to a cold front approaching from the west. That front will bring a band of showers and possibly a thunderstorm to our state Sunday morning; the 00Z GFS is a little slower, suggesting the best chance of showers will come from about 3:00 until 11:00 a.m. Sunday. The chance of severe weather and heavy rain still looks rather low here; rain totals should be 1/2 inch or less. Then, colder air invades the state Sunday, with temperatures holding in the 50s all day with a chilly north breeze.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS continues the idea of a wave of low pressure forming on the Polar front in the Northeast Gulf Sunday night. This means Monday will be a mostly cloudy and cool day, with a high in the 50s and some risk of light rain over the eastern and southern counties of the state. Those clouds should keep us above freezing Monday morning. Then, Tuesday and Wednesday look warmer and dry with a good supply of sunshine.

LONG RANGE: The last week of March should feature one or two decent rain opportunities, and a shot of cold air at some point along the way. Very changeable, which is what you expect this time of the year around here.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
