The upper ridge is becoming our dominant feature for the Southeast along with the Bermuda High nosing into our area from the Atlantic. The result will be an increased southerly flow which should bring moisture back to sufficient levels to generate daily chances for showers. But for today, it appears to be another dry and hot day with little chance of showers and highs in the lower and mid 90s.
Sunday the moisture increase should be enough to bring at least isolated showers to Central Alabama. By Monday and through the upcoming week, a fairly typical summertime pattern seems likely with daily chances for showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures are likely to remain in the 90s for highs dropping back to the lower 70s for lows.
A strong short wave moving across the top of the ridge will help to ease the ridge back to the west but that should have little impact on the resulting weather for us outside of keeping the temperatures from climbing toward extreme values.
With the main westerlies well to the north along the northern tier of the US, the main severe weather prospects which do include the potential for tornadoes lies from the Great Lakes westward to the Dakotas. This is typically the severe weather season for the North Central US.
Tropics are quiet in the Atlantic, but Hurricane Felicia is active in the Pacific away from any land today but may impact Hawaii in a couple of days.
The ridge is forecast in the long range GFS to remain the predominant feature for us into the latter part of August.

Navy Pier was on the schedule yesterday, and we took in the IMAX presentation of the new Harry Potter movie. The 3-D tag was a bit disappointing since it only lasted for the first 15 minutes or so of the movie, but the movie was still good. Enjoy the day, stay cool, and Godspeed.
