Scroll down and you can read J.B.’s long list of rain totals around Alabama… some neighborhoods were really blessed with over one inch of rain, but other places, especially over East Alabama, were not as fortunate. At my place in northern Shelby County the total was 0.55″; here at ABC 33/40 in Riverchase the total was 1.05″.
LOOKING AHEAD: A dry westerly flow will mean mostly fair weather for Alabama tonight, and a good supply of sunshine tomorrow. A disturbance aloft will rotate over North Alabama on Saturday, but the low level air will be very dry and the chance of significant rain looks very small. I guess a few isolated showers could show up over the northern half of the state, but I think those showers will be few and far between. The 12Z NAM shows no measurable rain on Saturday for Birmingham. So, for Saturday we will mention a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the low to mid 70s.
Sunday still looks like a beautiful day for the running of the Aaron’s 499 at the Talladega Superspeedway; lots of sunshine with a high in the upper 70s.
LONG RANGE: Quite frankly, the GFS doesn’t offer much hope for a major rain event for the next 15 days… most of the good wave action is well to the north and west of Alabama. We might have a day or two with scattered afternoon showers or storms, but I am afraid beneficial rain just doesn’t look likely at all.
