The weakness in the upper ridge that has combined with the afternoon heating to produce some significant coverage for showers sticks with us one more day. We should see another afternoon and early evening with good coverage of showers. The showers along with the cloud cover should help to limit highs to about 90 to 93 range. Rainfall amounts will be quite varied with some placed getting nothing and others getting upwards of an inch. Watch the video to see the image of storm total precipitation which quite nicely illustrates that idea with the storm coverage from yesterday.

The upper ridge grows stronger beginning Monday and continuing through the upcoming week. That means that showers chances should diminish fairly significantly as we drop back to mainly isolated afternoon and early evening thunderstorms. Along with the diminished shower activity we’ll also see highs climb into the mid and upper 90s. Due to the recent fairly widespread rains, soil moisture has increased a good bit, so not sure we will see triple digit heat, but it will be close toward the latter part of the week.

SPC continues to show the greatest threat of severe weather across the northern tier of the US on Day 1. That area stays there along with a slight risk for a large portion of New England back to eastern Pennsylvania on Day 2. Tropics still fairly quiet. Cloudiness prevailed across much of the Caribbean and extended well east of the Lesser Antilles. NHC watching an area east of the Lesser Antilles but currently no signs of development.

Bad news in voodoo country! That lovely deep trough the GFS had yesterday is gone! I figured yesterday it was too good to be true. GFS still suggesting troughiness over the Eastern Seaboard of the US but certainly not as deep as what we saw yesterday. Ah, well, the nature of those longer range projections!

James Spann is supposed to be back tomorrow after his fabulous trip to Cooperstown and Boston. I know he is back in town, but whether or not he’ll have enough discipline to return with a new Weather Xtreme Video in the morning is yet to be seen! Busy day ahead for me with ushering at church this morning then several meetings to attend including some training. I hope your day is a good one and Godspeed.
