A southward moving trough is triggering showers and thunderstorms in a U-shaped arc across East, Central and West Alabama this afternoon. Behind the trough, slightly drier air has filtered down the center spine of the state, leaving drier conditions in the I-65 corridor and counties on either side.
The activity extends from Cherokee, Calhoun and Cleburne Counties on the east to Coosa County, then there is a break until there are more showers and storms from Bibb up into Tuscaloosa, Pickens and Lamar Counties.
Storms over northern Tuscaloosa County are heading south toward the City of Tuscaloosa.
Developing showers are over Walker County in the Parrish area, extending over into Fayette County and southeastern Marion County. They are isolated in nature at this time.
The strongest storm in the state is near Piedmont. But the complex developing from Vance and Brookwood down to near Centreville may become the primary storm.
All activity is moving south.
Be on the lookout for brief heavy rains, dangerous lightning, gusty winds and a few instances of small hail through the afternoon. Listen for thunder and look for biillowing cumulus clouds. It is time to go inside until the storm passes.
