Thunderstorms are still roaming the Alabama countryside late tonight and at 11:30 p.m. a number of places are still getting very heavy rain. Here is the overall picture:
A band of showers and thunderstorms extends from NE Mississippi and NW Alabama down through the west side of Alabama and then all the way down to near Montgomery and even to near Troy and Union Springs in SE Alabama.
A Flash Flood Warning continues for Tuscaloosa County until 1:00 a.m. The intensity of the rain has decreased quite a bit over that West Alabama county, but there is still a lot of run off.
Part of that band of thunderstorms sent a nice cluster up through West Shelby and part of Jefferson County, including the downtown area. That separate bunch of thunderstorms is now over NW Jefferson County and spreading into Walker County with heavy amounts of rain.
So, summarizing all of this, the heaviest downpours as of 11:30 p.m. were in these areas:
…..NE corner of Perry County
…..East Fayette County
…..Almost all of Marion County
…..Franklin and Colbert Counties
…..NE Walker County
…..NW edge of Jefferson County
…..East Tallapoosa County in SE Alabama
Part of this big family of storms is over NE Mississippi. The NWS in Memphis continues a Flash Flood Warning for Itawamba and Lee Counties, both in NE Mississippi, until 12:30 a.m. To show you how heavy this rain is, the doppler radar from NWS/Memphis estimates 2-4 inches of rain have occurred in just the last three hours. In downtown Tuscaloosa, well over 2 inches have been recorded at the 33/40 Skycam.
We will continue to keep watch.
