Hanna Headed For Texas; Scattered Storms For Alabama Later Today
MUGGY SUMMER DAYS: Humid weather will continue across Alabama through the weekend; look for a mix of sun and clouds each day with the typical round of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” on a daily basis. Odds of any one spot getting wet each afternoon through Sunday will be around 30 percent, and highs will be close to 90 degrees. The average high for Birmingham on July 24 is 91. Continue reading
Sun And Scattered Thunderstorms
RADAR CHECK: So far today, most of the showers and storms across Alabama have been over the southern half of the state. North Alabama is mostly sunny with temperatures in the low 90s, right at seasonal averages for late July. Some of the showers over South Alabama will work their way northward this evening before dissipating. Continue reading
Scattered Storms This Afternoon; Tropical Depression In The Gulf
CLASSIC SUMMER WEATHER CONTINUES: The overall weather situation won’t change much for Alabama through the weekend. An upper ridge will remain parked over the southern U.S… meaning partly sunny, hot, humid days with “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” on a daily basis. Most of them will come from about 1:00 until 9:00 p.m… and odds of any one spot getting wet will remain around 30 percent through Sunday. Afternoon highs will be between 91 and 95 degrees for most communities. Just what you expect in late July around here. Continue reading
Hot Summer Weather With Scattered Showers/Storms
RADAR CHECK: Most of the scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon so far have been north of I-20, over the northern third of the state. Some spots have received heavy amounts of rain with temperatures dropping into the 70s, but where the sun is shining we are seeing low to mid 90s, very close to seasonal averages. Scattered storms will end later tonight as the air cools and becomes more stable. Continue reading
Morning Sun; Scattered Afternoon Storms
SUN, HEAT, STORMS: More classic summer weather is ahead for Alabama today through the weekend. Partly sunny, hot, humid days with scattered showers and storms, mostly during the afternoon and evening hours, when the air is most unstable. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing the exact placement and coverage of the storms that fire up on a daily basis this time of the year; odds of any one spot getting wet today will be 25/30 percent. Sun, Heat, and Storms
SUN AND STORMS: For some, summer soakers have developed this afternoon with heavy rain, some flooding, gusty winds, and lots of lightning. But, for others, it has been a partly sunny, hot, humid, and dry day. Scattered storms are moving slowly northward, and where rain is falling temperatures are in the 70s. Away from the storms, readings are mostly in the low 90s with very high precipitable water values. Storms will settle down later tonight as the air cools and becomes more stable. Continue reading
Hot, Muggy Summer Weather With Scattered Storms This Afternoon
POP UP STORMS LATER TODAY: Nothing is showing up on radar across Alabama early this morning, but later today as the air heats and becomes unstable, look for more random, scattered shower and thunderstorm development, generally between 1:00 and 9:00 p.m. Odds of any one spot getting wet this afternoon will be around 30 percent, and the high will be in the 92-96 degree range for most communities with a mix of sun and clouds. In other words, a very routine summer day for the Deep South. Continue reading

TYPICAL SUMMER AFTERNOON: It is a hot, humid day across Alabama with temperatures mostly in the low to mid 90s, along with random, scattered showers and thunderstorms showing little movement. Hot, Humid, A Few Afternoon Storms
CLASSIC SUMMER WEATHER: This is the time of the year when our weather doesn’t change much. Days are hot and humid with a partly sunny sky, and during the peak of the daytime heating we see a handful of showers and thunderstorms in random, scattered locations. That will be the situation this week across Alabama; odds of any one spot getting wet this afternoon are around one in five, and mostly between 1:00 and 9:00 p.m. Continue reading
Hot Summer Weather Through Next Week; Only Isolated Afternoon Storms
HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME: Temperatures are mostly in the low to mid 90s across Alabama this afternoon with a mostly sunny sky. Heat index values so far remain below heat advisory criteria level (they need to be at 105 for that), and we see no rain on radar at mid-afternoon. We do note a few showers and storms over far northern Tennessee, but those most likely won’t make it down into Alabama. Tonight will be fair and humid with lows in the 70s. Continue reading
